My Background as an Artist
My journey as an artist has been extensive. As a child, I always knew I wanted to be an artist. I was fortunate enough to have a mother that always encouraged my creativity and supported my love for all things Art. She taught me to try something new, learn from your mistakes, and never give up.
I started my education in fine art at about ten years old, painting and drawing, and have never stopped taking classes since. After high school, in college, I majored in graphic design and fashion design, where I first learned techniques in fashion and illustration.
My first real job as an artist was working as an assistant to an international fashion designer who's wedding gowns were made locally in Boston. I also worked as a freelance illustrator/designer for many years while raising my children. I adapted my style of art to whichever job/client came my way. Being flexible gave me many opportunities to create and also the base for being an art teacher.
My love for education and learning brought me to the decision to go back to college and get my degree in education. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Art Education and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. I have been teaching kindergarten through fourth grade visual art since 2003. I am very fortunate to teach students in a small quaint town, North of Boston, very close to where I grew up.
During the summer breaks from teaching I return to school to update my professional development and work on my own creative projects. I recently received my Certificate in Children's Books Illustration. I am currently writing and illustrating a nonfiction picture book while designing my own brand of fashion accessories and home goods. I continue to draw and paint every day.
And My Art Journey Continues...
